At Stile, we’re building awesome software that actually matters. We make educational tools used by millions of students and teachers for many hours in classrooms across Australia and the United States. Our tools make science and maths education joyful, challenging, and effective.

We’re a small team, but Stile is already used by 40% of Australian science students, with millions more joining both here and in the US over the next 18 months. This is a unique opportunity to have an outsized impact on the future of education.

We care about outcomes, not processes. If you love making pragmatic tradeoffs, carve through ambiguity, get excited about how AI can help you do more, and can’t help but fix all the problems you see around you, then you’ll love it here.

What you’ll do

You will own problems end-to-end: understanding the need, shaping the solution, building, shipping, observing, and evolving.

You’ll work:

  • Across the stack (because silos get in the way)

  • Closely with designers and educators (because context multiplies output)

  • With AI tools that actually save time (because you hate drudge work)

  • In fast cycles: build → ship → learn → repeat. Every day.

Who you are

You’re brilliant. You might have 20YoE or be fresh out of school, but you learn quickly, and impress everyone you’ve worked with.

You:

  • Fall in love with problems, not solutions

  • Ship an astonishing amount of impressive work

  • Rapidly learn new skills, technologies, problem domains, and ways of working

  • Can articulate a clear vision of what better looks like

  • Thrive on autonomy and feedback

  • Can’t resist the urge to make things unreasonably great rather than just good enough

  • Care about long term results: you want your work to matter

  • Lean into disagreements, fighting to stay in sync with your colleagues

  • Have strong opinions, loosely held: You love being convinced as much as you love convincing someone else

  • Give a damn. About your work, your colleagues, and especially about helping the next generation take a better shot at the future

What working here feels like

We’re a decade old, 70-ish person team (~20 engineers) in Melbourne. We run like a fast paced startup with the reach of a global enterprise. Engineers sit close to decisions, ideas get tried quickly, AI is used everywhere where it can make our work sharper, faster, or smarter.

You’ll get:

  • Brilliant colleagues

  • In person collaboration, 2–3 days a week in our Melbourne office

  • Flexibility, common sense, and autonomy

  • The power to ship to millions of students within hours

  • Rapid career growth

  • A high level of automation

  • Real ownership of important problems

  • An opportunity to meaningfully shape how students learn science and maths

Who we’re not looking for

Let’s be explicit to save everyone time:

  • If you want to work only in one area, this won’t work. We’re all full stack (with specialties).

  • If you want detailed requirements before writing code, you’ll struggle here.

  • If you like long planning cycles with rigid targets, this isn’t the place.

  • If you can’t make AI useful to you, then you won’t keep up.

  • If ownership stresses you out more than it energises you, you won’t enjoy it.

If that all sounds like a breath of fresh air, then come and talk to us!
