The Director of Adoptions leads the strategy, planning, and execution of all state instructional materials adoption processes for the company’s portfolio of core, supplemental, and assessment solutions. This role oversees the full lifecycle of state submissions to ensure compliance and successful product approval across multiple states. The Director of Adoptions serves as the organizational expert on state review processes, works crossfunctionally to align product, legal, marketing, sales, and operations teams, and ensures all submissions meet state requirements, timelines, and quality expectations. This leader plays a critical role in expanding market access and supporting revenue growth through successful adoption outcomes.

Position Information: This is a regular, full-time position, reporting to the VP Statewide Initiatives and Compliance.

Compensation: Base pay is anticipated to be between $119,786.00 and $150,000.00 per year. Eligible employees may also receive incentive/commission/annual bonus pay based on individual and/or company performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, individual skills, experience, training, education/certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and local market conditions.

Location: In this US-based position your location will be remote.

Travel: You can also expect up to approximately 30% travel, so be sure you have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance and a clean driving record for at least the preceding 39 months.

Envision Your Experience.

In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Develops and oversees a multi-year state adoption strategy aligned to company growth goals and product roadmap.
  • Forecasts upcoming state cycles, identify opportunities, and recommend product participation based on alignment, competitiveness, and resource requirements.
  • Leads cross-functional planning meetings to ensure organizational readiness.
  • Owns end-to-end management of state adoption and HQIM submissions in coordination with internal teams.
  • Guides internal teams through HQIM rubrics (e.g., EdReports, state-specific frameworks) and universal screener criteria.
  • Coordinates team communications with relation to development of evidence packets, crosswalks, and summaries that demonstrate alignment to high-quality expectations.
  • Maintains deep understanding of state adoption laws, policies, accessibility requirements, and submission protocols.
  • Ensures products meet all state-specific mandates.
  • Partners closely with Product, Content Development, Assessment, Engineering, Legal, Marketing, and Sales to prepare compliant and competitive submissions.
  • Provides Sales with adoption guidance, state-specific talking points, and timelines.
  • Maintains and streamlines internal systems, templates, trackers, and workflows to scale the company’s adoption operations.
  • Maintains historical records of submissions, approvals, and reviewer feedback.
  • Provides postadoption debriefs and insights to inform product enhancements.
  • Supervises adoption specialists, project managers, or contractors as needed with management of timeline and related documentation tied to adoption cycles.
  • Trains internal teams on adoption expectations, timelines, and best practices.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
  • Other duties as required.

Share Your Expertise.

Experience, education, and qualifications essential for success in this role, include:

  • Masters’s degree in Education, Public Policy, Business, or related field and at least 10 years of experience in instructional materials adoptions, curriculum publishing, state policy, or related K–12 educational roles; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex state adoption submissions or HQIM reviews.
  • Deep knowledge of K–12 academic standards, instructional design, and curriculum evaluation frameworks.
  • Strong project management skills with proven ability to meet tight, highstakes deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with state agencies and internal teams.
