About the Role:

The Advanced Diagnostics Engineer will provide comprehensive engineering support primarily to the Proterra’s partners and internal service and technical teams. This role emphasizes the utilization of computer modeling and graphical programs to analyze and solve complex problems using data streams from electric vehicles, battery systems, and chargers. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the electrical engineering discipline, capable of applying electrical theory to real-world designs, and ideally experienced in scripting for data analysis and developing prognostics for vehicle maintenance. Diagnostic Engineer that is responsible for performing remote technical diagnosis of battery packs in customer possession. Reports to Manager-Service Engineering

Responsibilities include:

Training and Systems Familiarization:

  • Undergo extensive training on Proterra Powered products through formal classes, on-the-job experiences with senior engineers, and both in-office and travel-required customer site training to fully understand onboard systems.
  • Collaboration with Design Engineering:
  • Engage collaboratively with quality, engineering, and other necessary departments to drive product improvements and integrate lessons learned from field data into design reviews, problem-solving, and engineering change requests.

Data Analysis and Diagnostics:

  • Analyze live data streams from vehicle dataloggers for remote diagnostics and utilize Proterra’s custom software tools for data review and analysis to diagnose failures in electrical vehicles and charging systems.
  • Graphically interpret recorded data to remotely diagnose faults and determine the root cause of failures by coupling data analysis with contextual information.

Advanced Technical Support:

  • Provide high-level technical support to field technicians and customers to maintain vehicle availability, troubleshooting complex issues that are escalated from customer sites.

Tool and Documentation Design:

  • Work with special tools and temporary test setups as required for diagnostics and repairs.
  • Develop documentation to formalize knowledge gained from data analysis into actionable information to characterize and address failure modes.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support ongoing diagnostic and service efforts.
  • Will provide on-site support as required by customers or internal personnel

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of physics and electrical engineering principles.
  • Hands-on skills in diagnosing and repairing equipment.
  • Proficiency in using electrical and mechanical measurement devices.
  • Ability to interpret complex data graphically and remotely guide repairs.
  • Experience with Vector CANalyzer or similar applications
  • Advanced knowledge of circuit analysis and schematic reading.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with hybrid or electric vehicles is a plus.
  • Programming experience is beneficial.

Your Experience Includes:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in an engineering role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
