Position Overview
This position will provide comprehensive quality engineering support to the Quality Manager at Proterra Powered 1 and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for ensuring product and process integrity through the development, implementation, and execution of systems that support manufacturing, including various APQP items; for supporting activities related to process development, qualification, and optimization; and ensuring customer satisfaction through timely response to internal and external issues. This role will report to the Plant Quality Manager at the Greer, SC Proterra Powered 1 manufacturing plant and collaborate with other Quality and cross-functional team members.
About the Role – You Will:
- Identify production issues in area of primary responsibility and support cross-functional team on resolution (leading problem solving as required), using Proterra quality processes
- Communicate status and next steps of top issues in area of responsibility to multiple levels of the organization
- Drive Non-Conformance Reports to closure in area of primary responsibility with focus on quality of investigation and timing milestones
- Track scrap vs targets in area of primary responsibility, escalating when applicable with proposed solutions
- Lead project work in area of primary responsibility, supporting project work in other areas based on experience and expertise
- Represent Quality on cross-functional teams in area of primary responsibility and in other areas based on experience and expertise
- Plan and direct activities pertinent to the development, application and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes; create and maintain quality documentation, such as procedures, inspection plans, work instructions, etc.
- Work with Production, Product Development, and Program Teams to ensure that customer expectations and contract requirements are met

- This position will be part of the Greer, SC based Quality team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greer, SC.
- You will report to the Plant Quality Manager, Proterra Powered and collaborate with other Quality team members located at our other facilities.

Your Experience Includes
- Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial or equivalent) or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years quality experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong problem-solving skills supported by structured Root Cause analysis, may include the following: Kepner-Tregoe, Shainin, Six-Sigma, etc.
- Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Knowledge and understanding of the following: ISO 9001, IATF16949, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems – battery system knowledge a plus
- QMS Auditor Experience (ISO9001, IATF16949) a plus
- Knowledge of quality and continuous improvement tools
- Proficient computer skills that may include the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, Arena, Jira, Teams or similar applications
- Experience using basic measurement tools including but not limited to gages, calipers, micrometers. CMM/Faro/Polyworks experience a plus.
- Physical Demands
- May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
- Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
- Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
- Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
- Environmental Demands
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
- Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
- Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
