Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive maintenance support to Proterra’s Maintenance Supervisor and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for providing a full range of technical solutions to client groups at the site and be in an environment where you can have a greater impact. This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor and collaborate with team members located at the manufacturing facility.

About the Role – You will:

  • Perform highly diversified duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of production and automation equipment
  • Diagnose and resolve emergency and unscheduled equipment failures with urgency and accuracy, minimizing production impact
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance plans to maximize equipment uptime and reliability
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues leveraging mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skillsets
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to perform required maintenance
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of PLC logic and utilize that knowledge to troubleshoot equipment independently and support others in troubleshooting activities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair robotic systems, servo drives, vision systems, HMI components, control network components, and motor controls
  • Accurately document all maintenance activities including work performed, parts used, root cause findings, and corrective actions in the CMMS or applicable system
  • Communicate effectively across shifts and with engineering, operations, and automation teams to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities including Kaizen events, root cause analysis (RCA), and PM optimization initiatives — contributing ideas and driving solutions that improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime
  • Support the development and refinement of standard work and preventative maintenance procedures based on field experience and equipment data
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, testing equipment, and material handling equipment safely and effectively
  • Comply with all safety regulations and maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Your Experience Includes:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechatronics degree and/or 5 years of experience working with automation assembly lines (i.e., mechanically, electrically or pneumatics).
  • Demonstrated experience with PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robots (Fanuc and Universal Robots preferred)
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms for work order management and documentation (MaintainX, Maximo, SAP, etc)
  • Experience participating in or leading CI activities such as Kaizen, 5S, RCA, or FMEA
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, or on-call as required by production needs
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently
  • Physical Demands:
  • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds. The heaviest module that we have is 83 pounds and requires 2-man lifting.
  • Able to walk, stand (100%), crouch (5-10%), bench (0), kneel (0), lift (up to 100% of day), carry (5-10%) and reach (constantly) as needed in large and tight spaces.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
  • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
  • Environmental Demands:
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
  • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
  • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
